MONTICELLO VINEYARD, COOMBSVILLE DISTRICT, NAPA VALLEY
Hidden in the rolling hills of Monticello in the newly designated Coombsville AVA and the eastern foothills of Napa Valley along Vichy Road, this 10-acre vineyard was introduced to Mark Jessup in 2005, when he was searching for exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for the J Gregory wines. In each vintage, Mark now chooses fruit from individual rows of the Monticello Vineyard to complement the master blend of J Gregory Cabernet Sauvignon.
HIDDEN OAKS VINEYARD, NAPA VALLEY
Clifton Burmester, Scott Carston, and Manny Gomes, compadrés, own and farm the 50-acre Hidden Oaks Vineyard—Manny is the designated vineyard manager and farmer of this Wooden Valley growing site. (The ranch includes a total of 200 acres; 50 acres are planted to vines.) Mark began studying and working with the Hidden Oaks Vineyard in 2001, and began making wines with Hidden Oaks grapes for the Jessup Cellars wines in 2004. The vineyard produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, and Cabernet Franc, and is an essential source of Napa Valley fruit for the J Gregory wines.
KASTEN VINEYARD, OAK KNOLL DISTRICT, NAPA VALLEY
Architect John Kasten of Napa’s Kasten Designs owns this small 2-acre vineyard located in the heart of the Oak Knoll District on Big Ranch Road. Mark has consulted for John on several small home winemaking projects, and in 2010, Kasten hired Mark as his consulting winemaker and vineyard supervisor. Mark subsequently brought on Hill Family Vineyard Management to farm the Kasten Vineyard under his guidelines. In 2011, Mark included the first grapes from the Kasten Vineyard in the J Gregory Blend. John Kasten has designed several projects for Mark, including the first Jessup Cellars Winery on Mt. Veeder, the Jessup Cellars Tasting Room in Yountville, and Jessup Cellars’ first wine label.
